About Us
My connection to pottery and kilns began in 2000, when I enrolled in a 10th-grade 3D Design class taught by Jay. I quickly became fascinated by the entire process—working with clay, sculpting, glazing, experimenting with different techniques, and learning how kilns operated.Jay noticed that I was often willing to stay after class to keep working and learning. He was equally willing to share his knowledge, giving me hands-on instruction well beyond the regular coursework.About a year later, Jay invited me to help with a local kiln installation. After getting permission from my parents, I joined him on the job. That first installation turned into a working relationship that would continue through high school, college, and well into adulthood.Over the following two decades, I helped Jay install hundreds of kilns and complete kiln repairs throughout Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Delaware. We also worked together on decks, additions, and other construction projects, giving me extensive experience with tools, job sites, and the practical details involved in completing installations correctly.As Jay’s son, Jamie, became more involved in the business, he gradually took on many of the installations alongside his father. I continued assisting whenever additional help was needed.Today, Jay, Jamie, and I bring that long working history together through DMV Kiln Pros. What began with one high-school art class and a single installation has grown into a relationship spanning more than 25 years—and a company built around experience, craftsmanship, and genuine respect for the ceramic community.
